Early Years Learning
At Pumpkins we follow
the government laid down framework for care and education within the
early years known as THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE.
What does this mean in practice?
A UNIQUE
CHILD
|
• |
We focus
on the individual child placing equal importance on
every area of development. |
|
• |
We aim
to reflect the diversity of children’s backgrounds in
our setting through using home languages, Makaton
signing and encouraging the children to share their home
life experiences through activities such as Pumpkin Bear
diary and special person photo boards. |
|
• |
We place a high emphasis on
the safety of our children. |
|
• |
We support the
development of children’s physical skills and gross
motor development through our “Leaps and Bounds”
physical activity programme. Run by Tumble Tots we offer
weekly half hour sessions that encompasses all aspects
of physical development, including climbing, rolling,
jumping, balancing and moving in a variety of ways. |
|
|
|
| |
ENABLING ENVIRONMENTS
| • |
Planning
comes from the interests and needs of the children. We
continually observe and assess the children during their
play to identify what they can do, what they like doing
and how we can provide for the next steps in their
learning. |
| • |
We
complete learning story observations that, along with
photos and additional ad hoc observations provide a
detailed picture of their learning and development
journey. |
| • |
We use
the outdoor environment extensively to support
children’s learning and recognise that for some children
the space and freedom that the outdoors provides
enhances their opportunities for learning. |
| • |
We
actively encourage involvement from the local community
in our setting to extend the children’s learning e.g.
visits to the farm/visits/talks from neighbours/other
professionals/visits/talks from parents. |
| • |
We work in partnership with
other professionals involved in the children’s care. |
|
|
|
| |
LEARNING AND
DEVELOPMENT
| • |
We place
equal importance on all areas of learning and
development and support and develop children’s learning
through play. |
| • |
We
encourage children to explore and experiment by
providing a rich and stimulating environment for them to
play in |
| • |
We
encourage creativity and imaginative play by providing
varied resources for the children |
| • |
We
develop children’s learning, through adults supporting
the children in their play and extending their thinking. |
| • |
Activities and experiences
are planned covering the six areas of learning and
development:

Personal, Social and Emotional
